I got an ultrawide yesterday, the LG 34uc99-w and since i started using it over my old monitor the samsung syncmaster s27b350, it feels as though my mouse is behind, in games it's even more noticeable. I'm using the same razer mamba tournament edition and my PC has a ryzen 7 2700, GTX 970 with 16gb 3000mhz RAM. I've turned on freesync on the monitor (I don't think it does anything) and i've turned it to the lowest refresh rate.

Things i've tried:

Messing with all the settings on the monitor
Updating graphics drivers

Swapping usb ports

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

What refresh rate is the monitor on, if you go to Nvidia Control Panel > Change Resolution > See on the right side ?

Going to have to move your mouse farther side to side.  Could be your mouse mat doesn’t fit the form factor any more.  Could be something else of course.

Its not the mouse, it's that it feels like it doesn't line up to the movement i'm doing, as if it's behind.

Ah. Lag.  And this changed when you put in the new monitor? Or later?

Sounds like a driver issue.

I seem to be getting used to it but it still doesn't feel as snappy as my old one.

I’m not sure if this is an actual problem or simply an artifact of having an unusually wide monitor.

to speculate:

It’s possible there is a driver somewhere with a netbouy type scaling problem and is having problems. If this is so it would have the same sort of problems on a normal 4k screen.

It might also be that it has a 2k/4k setting for example that isn’t being tripped because the form factor is 2k in one direction but 4k in another. If this is the case getting the driver to think the screen is 4k might solve the problem.  In either case it’s a manufacturer coding thing.  I would suggest contacting the manufacturers of the mouse and the monitor.

I've been getting used to it, but when watching YouTube at the 1440p resolution I keep getting frame dips to 30fps even though its a 60fps video, therefore making it more viable to watbh on my phone. I've also noticed that watching the live streamer "Wardell" at the maximum resolution also produces stutters, he does stream at 120fps, but this never happened before. I've checked my GPU usage, and it doesn't go above about 20% whilst watching.

Shouldn’t be a cpu problem either.  With a 2700   You’ve got a lot there even to do software decoding of whatever codec the video is in.  Is the cpu pegging?

Well there’s definitely an issue. This also started happening when you installed the big monitor?

Yes it did. I'm using the DP cable that came with it.

I’m back to bad software or bad reaction to that  unusual screen size from other software.  Could even be windows.Unless there was something else that got changed (or maybe not changed that should have been) when you installed it.  Ultra wide monitors are not standard resolution.  If there’s a program that is expecting it and finding something else it may have issues.  It would have to be running when the problems happen though.  What else is running when you see this?  Is there a commonality?

I installed some of LG's software, the stutters in videos are fixed, latency feels normal, but in games it increases, even if the game is open in the background, i also noticed there's a "Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync/G-Sync Compatible) option in one of those softwares, and on the monitor itself, i played with that setting and noticed 2 things, with it off, i can't get the 75hz on the monitor i also noticed with it on, there is significantly more stutter in game, (valorant) when locked to 55 fps, to simulate adaptive fps. However, it feels much smoother and less latency with it off. I tried "overclocking" the monitor to 75hz and the same results occur.

So half fixed by LG software.  Might they ave a setting for games too?  Are these games set to run at your monitor’s native resolution?

Yes they are set to run at native, there are game settings such as "Response time" which i have set to "Faster", which is the fastest. There is also black stabilizer.

If the windows desktop stuff needs a special layer to run it’s likely everything else will too. Answer might still be in that LG software.

There is nothing in the software that i would consider giving an effect, since everything in that software can be found on the monitor OSD.

Then why did it suddenly fix desktop problems?  Did it just change some monitor settings?
