 Hi

Me and my roommate put together a new computer to retiree his old e-machine with a celeron and originally less then 512 mb of ram

anyway we have a slight problem every time he turns his monitor off it crashes the system and reports windows suffered an error and must restart

he has the following

GIGABYTE GA-H81.Amp-UP LGA 1150 Intel

Intel Core i5-4570 Haswell 3.2GHz

PNY Optima 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3

windows 8.1 pro 64 bit

Thank You

I dont think that it directly crashes the OS, maybe the HMDI when plugged in shorts out the GPU which results in the OS crashing. Try connecting the HDMI to the motherboards hdmi port (if it has one) if it doesnt have one try a different GPU.

This is using on board graphics he had a very limited budget

Then try to get a GPU off a friend, because I honestly think its the HDMI shorting out the motherboard when plugged in. Also try using VGA (or DVI if the motherboard supports it).
