DP cable help I'm clueless

I'm a complete noob setting up a New PC but every time I connect DP cable to graphics card and monitor i get stuck on HDMI 1 no signal and changing it to DP input just makes the monitor go into standby mode

Go into the monitor OSD & set the input detect to Auto, with no cable attached.

The monitor is currently expecting a signal in HDMI 1 port & not getting one...

I connected my laptop to the monitor so it would allow me to change it to DP input but just changes straight back HDMI

Did you adjust the OSD with NO cable attached?

The other option is that the DP cable is dead.

doesn't let me use menu with no cable attached just go's into standby mode and I've tried 2 different DP cable.

I just tried HDMI to Graphics card and that never even worked so must be something else

the motherboard does have a orange light

thanks for the help turned it off and on again and it's works not sure if I should be worried but I'll take the win
