I’m planning on making big upgrades to my gaming rig and I was speculating about what cpu to upgrade to. I have plans to purchase big Navi when it releases but I’m not sure if a Ryzen 7 3700x is going to be enough. I want to spend as little as possible on a cpu without bottlenecking my Gpu.

3700x will be more than enough. My 2080ti cant even keep my 3700x fed...

Also do I need to go more than a b450 for a motherboard upgrade with those upgrades in mind?

B450 will be perfectly adequate. Nothing saturates PCIE gen 3 yet for GPUs and doubtful that Big Navi will either or the upcoming RTX 3000 series.

Alright thanks a ton. I was planning on getting a 3080 on release but with news of Big Navis performance I have to wait. I may also have to upgrade to a better power supply too. Mine is only 500w atm

Also do you think it would be smart to go any lower than a 7 3700? Would a 3600 or 3600x work?

3600 would be the lowest I would go and should likely still be 100% fine and adequate pairing.

500w is likely enough unless they overstep 2080ti+20% in terms of powerdraw. Which is rather unlikely.

It all comes down to which 500w.

i'd recommend a 3600 or a 10600k depending on ur budget/gpu, a 10600k is better at gaming than a 3700x, while a 3600 gives u an extra ~usd for the gpu. I'd take a 3600+2070S setup over a 3700+2060S. 10600k just makes more sense for more expensive gpus over the 3700x.
