I have an old HP Z600 desktop at work sat around that I'm looking at repurposing as a poster/leaflet editing PC for a colleague.

It has:

Xeon X5660 x 2

24GB ECC

1050Ti GPU

Kingston 480GB SSD

It gets a score of 2685 in Cinebench

Would people recommend transplanting into a new case?

Is there anything you would change or alter?

Ryzen 9 7900X

Asrock X670E PG Lightning

32GB G.Skill 6000mhz DDR5

1TB Samsung 990 Pro

Rdna 2 iGPU

It’s a hell of an beast with those CPU’s n stuff.

Transplanting server/workstation motherboards to a new case is hard because of the size. Sometimes the sizes are even proprietary. As long as your colleague doesn’t mind the looks and the pc is not running hot you’re fine.

honestly, the graphics card is the only “weak-point” but when editing photo’s it’s not used often. I think you’re fine.

might add a 1 TB HDD for storage?

I've decided to leave it in the original case as finding one to fit everything that HP put in there is nearly impossible.

I'm going to add another 480GB SSD.

Stripped it to bits today the Thermal paste was more like dust... Re-applied paste, disabled any power saving options in bios now hitting 3015 on cinebench only hitting 75oC after 5 runs, sitting between 31-36 on idle which I think is pretty damn good.

Only issue is the crappy HP mobo no overclocking what so ever.
