So many battery choices

I was recently at the battery section of my grocery store and was so confused.  There are so many choices.  I know the advertisement for one of them was "longer life or more power".  But I could get 6 of those for $10 or I could get 20 store branded batteries for $9.  

 

I figured for a remote control it truly didn't matter but I was wondering if anyone had an idea if these "better batteries" are really better.

If you don't need rechargeability, lithium batteries are generally better than alkaline in high-draw applications. They cost more, but usually last quite a bit longer.
