Chrome has been feeling extremely slow the last couple months (been using it for years) I have an i7 7700k and 16gb of ram so I really don't think it's hardware. Chrome use to be relatively fast, but now it takes a second or two to open a new tab and search something in. Same with youtube, I open a youtube video and try to pause it. Nothing happens for 2 seconds, and then it registers my actions. Could it be buildup of all my bookmarks, cookies etc ?

I've been having issues with chrome too, but I was never able to pin-point an issue. I have used chrome for years, and about a month ago, I noticed chrome was hanging all of a sudden. And I mean it would get a little slow, and then lock up completely. On average, Chrome was using roughly 8-10GB ram (had anywhere from 8-13 tabs open at once depending on the work-flow).

As the hanging was starting, I was getting ready to build a new system, and do a complete format on my old SSD, and install a new NVMe. After I built the new machine, I gave Chrome another go, and it seems that the issue went away. But because I did so many changes at once, I'm not sure if it was the hardware change that caused it (new mobo, cpu, ram, video card), or the reformat of windows.

It could have been that I was pushing roughly 90-95% ram usage at the time (had 16GB ram), but like I said, with so many changes at once, it was impossible to tell which fixed it. But now I'm running on 32GB ram and haven't had an issue. It does seem a little "sluggish" at times, but I can easily fix that now with just restarting chrome completely and refreshing everything.
