I been using the speed test on Comcast website, google internet speed test and speedtest.net  and im just wondering if its worth me buying my own modem

its normally cheaper to buy your own modem to you don't have to pay every month.

Are you testing the speeds over wifi or wired?

The included modem should be able to hit the rated speeds of the plan though. Try to just connect your pc to the modem and remove the router from the network for a test.

Do you have Digital Voice? If so, replacing your modem with one you buy is much harder, as things can get funky due to the phone portion. Owning your own modem means you save between $11-$15 a month depending on what they charge in your area. Keep in mind some of these rentals also include unlimited data, so be aware. I personally own my own for the last 5 years, so we have saved on average $120 a year.

Another thing, their network is under a lot of stress right now. For the last few months the data cap was suspended due to the pandemic, They have now reinstated it as well as gave us an extra 200Gigs of data so we get 1.2 TB of data month :D (heavy on the sarcasm). Your area could be seeing increased usage. The first thing I generally look at is the signal levels, if your signal is good then it could be a config file issue, if your signal is bad, that could lead to the loss of downstream channels resulting in slower connection and even in sever cases disconnection. Generally you can check your signals by going to 192.168.100.1. Not sure if that works on one of their gateways. If its a config file issue then you might be able to call and have them send the right file.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
