G-Sync on external displays?

Good day everyone. I was wondering if I had bought a G-Sync compatible external monior, would the display port 1.4 in my laptop (Asus Zephyrus M, 2019) be able to support G-Sync on it. 

I've seen a person here claim it worked on their 2018 Zephyrus M, but that laptop supports G-Sync on its in-built monitor.
