The 4000 kit may have a tad less latency.

Go with the 3600 one imo.

Not guaranteed ( even tho it's technically easy, it's still not guaranteed.)

Hello,

So since my old 4790k and z97 pro died ( code 00/D0 loop at boot) I need to find some new parts at the worst time.

The new PC will be based around the B550 Aorus Pro.

I am currently choosing between these two RAM kits:

https://www.gskill.com/product/165/184/1536113464/F4-3600C16D-16GVKRipjaws-VDDR4-3600MHz-CL16-16-16-36-1.35V16GB-(2x8GB)
or

I plan to run the memory at at 3600 MHz and maybe 3733-3800MHz -IF- the CPU can handle an Infinity fabric OC to 1866-1900MHZ with CL17-17-17-38 and below timings when OC'd.

( I have 0 experiance with DDR4 OC so I have no idea how DDR4 Samsung B-die behaves in terms of voltage or frequency)

As for the CPU I need to choose between 3600XT and 3800XT.

Intended use: software development, UE4 and maybe some games like GTAV, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077.

Any advice or opinions on the RAM mainly and cpu is highly appreciated.

The Ripjaws V kit you picked is very solid. Since it's Samsung B-die you can try further tightening the timings yourself or try bumping them up to 3733/3800MHz, as long as the CPU can hold an 1866/1900MHz FCLK, since you want that to be 1:1 with your memory. For this same reason, there's no point in going for the kit rated for 4000MHz, since you won't be running that speed anyway since you'd be losing performance.

For the CPU I'd go for a 3700X. Depending on how expensive you'll be able to get the 3800XT for, you could probably snatch a 3900X for a similar price which would be an all  round better option.

Don't get the XT parts

So far they look like just a higher binned chips. Get the non XT chips and they'll do the same thing

Relatively easy imo.

If the kit is already at 3600 cl 16

Then the performance will be similar.

That's decent.

Can't I downclock the 4000 Kit to 3800 and below and tighten the timings?

Both kits are similarly priced too.

You could but I assumed that the 4000MHz kit is more expensive.

You can

But you'd be waisting money on a more expensive kit.

And if you wanted to go for 4000, very few if any chips can get to 2000 FCLK and that causes some latency penalties

@TofuHaroto

The kits are at the same price ~140$.

the 4000 Mhz comes with CL 19-21-21-41

the 3600 Mhz  with CL16-16-16-36

the 4000 cl 19 with downclock to 3600 maybe it could be similar to the CL16 kit?

and still have the option to increase speed if I do a ryzen 4000 upgrade later on and ryzen 4000 supports higher speed memory.
