I've been vaguely looking to move away from Adobe, and Adobe Fonts was really the only thing holding me back. I was wondering if anyone had discovered a way to download the fonts, and i found this github repo where someone had supposedly figured it out. I downloaded it and ran the command which didn't really work at all. (The whole repo only had one commit, so I'm guessing he (or she) forgot about the project and never finished it. However, helpfully, they provided a rough guide of what the program did, which was enough for me to attempt it manually.

You go to %APPDATA%\Adobe\CoreSync\plugins\livetype

there should be a bunch of folders (you may need to enable viewing hidden folders+items)

in the c folder, there should be 2 xml files; entitlements.xml and entitlements_downloading.xml. the downloading variant seems to only come into play when downloading a font.

open the entitlements.xml file

ctrl-f the font you want and note the number under the ID tag

go into either the e or r folder and find that number.

copy the file with the number into a destination of your choice

rename it to something more useful. (the program did FONTNAME - VARIANT, but i think you should be able to name it whatever)

add a .otf file extension (you may need to enable viewing the file extension in the name)

open the file and it should install as a normal font.

now onto the troubleshooting portion:
I was able to get this working with the first font i tried (Cabazon Regular), but i was not sucessful with the next two i tried (ITC Benguiat Bold Condensed and another one). Could anyone else think of a reason this may not have been sucessful? (as i'm typing this up, i'm thinking it may be due to using either the e or r folder, possible one doesn't contain the exact right file (mac vs pc????????), ill try it later and see if that yields a positive result)

oh, and it'd be sick if someone revived that repo and got it working, they used an MIT liscense so you can freely build off their work.

ethical note: yes, i realize these fonts were designed by people who should get compensated for their work, but I am at a point where I can't afford to pay the price they command (i recieve adobe for free through school). i feel slightly bad about this though, so idk, maybe ill purchase them through the foundries at some point when im ballin like that. in addition, im not using them for commercial purposes at all, so in my view its almost like the font trials some foundries offer, just with more characters.

is this the right subforum? not really sure
