I'm really hoping that someone can help explain this to me. I have this broken LCD from an Acer Aspire 3, its a 15.6" screen. I've been looking online for replacements when I see much cheaper options with slightly different part numbers. Does it matter what the part number is as long as it's the same size, resolution, and pin requirement?

It shouldn't, but try and match the part number of the LCD currently in the laptop.

But if they are otherwise the same (resolution, size, and connector) it is likely different revisions or something in which case it shouldn't matter.

Quote me to see my reply!

You'll need to make sure the cables are in the same place and the same length, the panel is the same size, resolution is the same, and the connection is the same, but if all those are true it should work.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Depends how much you're willing to take apart.

Most laptop assemblies come as "screen, lid, bezel, antennas, camera, microphone array"

So if you're looking for just the LCD screen and not the entire lid, then you might be able to just any version that has the same connector (these are all really eDP connectors, but the included cable length might not fit the laptop.) If it's the entire assembly, then there will likely only be a few models, one's without the camera, ones without LTE antenna's, and one without both. A cheaper assembly will likely be one without both.

I would probably not risk it unless you can see a photo of the entire photo to compare. This also applies to batteries. In a sense, all batteries in laptops are actually the same, but the shape's are all different despite having the same cable. So if you bought the wrong model, and it fits, it might be missing clearance between things inside the laptop and as soon as you close the lid it severs the cable.
