Laptop eGpu compatibility

Hi

so i will be getting a dell inspiron 15 5000 soon and i was wondering if there are any eGpu enclosures that are compatible. ive looked around a littl bit but i havent really found anything that can answer my question. i dont need it to come with a graphics card, an empty one works. im only planning on gaming on it if im not at home since i already have a gaming computer, i can just grab my card from there when i travel.

Afaik as long as you have thunderbolt 3 and your laptop is not explicitly listed as incompatible, it should work. Source: Razer Core v1 works with my XPS 15 9570.

i looked at the specs and it mentions that it has usb type c, but makes no mention of thunderbolt. i know that usb type c is the same connector as thunderbolt but some sources have said that there are some differences between the two.

 

edit:

i just took a closer look at the specs and it says the type c is (dp/power deliery) im guessing the dp stands for display port but im not sure

Type C is the connector, Thunderbolt is a protocol. If the type C port doesn't support Thunderbolt, then I don't think it'll work.

Thats what i kind of guessed, thats why im asking for some help finding a different one thats not thunderbolt 3

i was wrong about the laptop im getting (its a grad gift from parents, didnt remember which one they ordered) im actually getting an hp 15z high performance

yeah 3.1 not thunderbolt  

 

an e-gpu needs to transfer 4 lanes of PCIE which is supported by Thunderbolt 3, but not by other standards of USB that happen to use the type C connector.

yeah thats why im trying to figure out if i can find a different enclosure that connects differently or if im out of luck for an egpu
