I just got my sisters old 13 inch 2015 macbook pro. Base model. I then made a windows to go usb with windows 10 2004 x64. The macbook boots to the flashdrive just fine but there are no drivers. i tried to manually install the wifi driver through device manager and it shows success but then it doesnt actually install. I went back to OSX and tried to use boot camp assistant to download the windows support software but after it says saving windows support software then at the top of the window it keeps popping up saying it couldnt save the software and asking for my password to continue. it keeps giving so many errors i have to force quit the program. im wondering how else to get the drivers or even just the network driver as i found a tool to get the rest of the drivers as long as the network driver is installed. TIA.

MacOS requires that you use a FAT formatted flash drive to utilize BootCamp. Make sure you're following all of the instructions available at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204923.

Are you following the instructions for installing windows with boot amp or just winging it?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Do you mean that your Windows installation is on the flash drive? Apple will not provide driver support for external drives. I'm fairly sure BootCamp checks to make sure that Windows is present on your internal drives.

No, you need to get them from Apple directly. There are ways around this, but they can be overly complicated. https://medium.com/@svenkirsime/install-windows-on-the-external-ssd-hdd-for-your-mac-5d29eefe5d1

I would suggest that you install Windows on your OS drive and use the external drive for your applications. Alternatively, you can also replace the M.2 drive on a 2015 Macbook with a larger drive.

I just wanted to come back because I was actually able to get the drivers. After doing a system report to find the current macOS driver for WiFi. I found a windows installer for it and after downloading it with my macOS to a usb then accessing that on my windows install I was able to get WiFi working and my cpu and gpu drivers were automatically found and installed
