My current PC specs:

Intel i7-4820k

Asus p9x79 le motherboard

2x8gb Adata XPG ddr3 memory 1600mhz

Rx 5700xt GPU

Corsair RM750x PSU

I’ve made some recent upgrades to my PC with a new gpu and power supply. Right now, I know my cpu is the bottleneck for my system in most games, and I’m considering upgrading the rest of the system fairly soon. Namely, I’m possibly looking into upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 5 3600, the motherboard to a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, and the ram to 16gb of DDR4 3200mhz.

My question is, for 1440p Gaming, will I see a large jump in performance? I’m trying to justify spending the money on all of the new parts, but if I’m only going to see like a 10fps jump in games, it doesn’t seem quite worth it to me.

I would not recommend switching to a new platform now

A 4820k should do the job for now

Wait for zen 3

It's less load on the cpu

Meaning that you won't notice a performance hit ( at least a big one ) compared to 1080p

Are you sure your 4820K's the bottleneck at 1440p? Is it running at stock speeds?

Inside of games, it seems like my CPU cores often are around the 90%ish range while my gpu is usually sitting at around high to mid 80%. I especially notice problems in games like GTAV where I’ll sit at around 40fps, and I’m trying to get that up if possible.

I’m running the 4820k at 4.4 ghz right now. I’m somewhat of a novice at overclocking, so maybe with a little more practice I will be able to overclock it further, but this seemed to be my wall.
