Hey guys i heard that if you record 1080p gameplay but render it at 720p you get better 720p quality is this true or is it a lie ?

It is called transcoding, not "rendering".

 

And it wont look any better. Just record at 720p if you want 720p. Scaling up/down the resolution will reduce the quality of the video.

know if anything it has the potential to look worse
text often fucks up alot if it gets downscaled
would recommend recording and uploading at the same resolution regardless of what it is

Yeah, downsampling when you edit is hit and miss. It's not like downsampling when playing games, as it's also being compressed. If you're doing serious editing though, with effects and such, it can be useful to record at a higher resolution as it will give you freedom to play with scaling and such, just as many videos are filmed at 4k and then rendered out at 1080p. It also allows you to keep it at 1080p down the line if you decide to.
