A few questions on my cooling setup

Hi all,

 

I recently bought a new, much larger PC case, and after setting it all up, I decided that I want to add an additional 2 x 140mm fans to the bottom.

However, looking at the specifications in the manual for the case, it states that to install 140mm fans on the bottom, I require a "bracket". I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Also, what are the recommendations for bottom case fans? I assume I want to install them as "intake" fans, but, the way the case is set out, they won't be visible, so i don't need any flash RGB fans, what would be the best to get?

 

My final question - As part of the rebuild, I swapped over to an H150i AIO cooler, which came with 3 fans to install on the radiator. According to the manual, Corsair recommends installing the fans as "intake" fans, however, looking at the front of the manual the picture clearly shows them installed as exhausting the air through the radiator? I've mounted the fans on it as shown in the attached image, with the radiator mounted at the top of my case, and the fans pointing down into the case with the logo facing down into the case as shown, if i'm right, then that means the fans are sucking air from the case and pushing it out through the radiator right? Is that right or should I flip the fans?

You would have to specify what case you have.

They should be intake. If you have a lot of room under your case go for an airflow optimized fan like the Fractal Venturi HF fans, if it is a very slim space then go for a pressure optimized fan like the Fractal HP fans. Those are what I tend to use, so they are easy for me to recommend.

The best would be to have them as intake in the front of your case. If that isn't possible, then you have to decide between top intake, and top exhaust. The choice depends on the air flow in the rest of your case, but in my experience, using it as intake provides better temps for the CPU and worse temps for the GPU, and using it as exhaust has better temps for the GPU and worse temps for the CPU. I have always settled on exhaust through the top radiator.

It seems like it would have plenty of room, so from your recommendation, the Fractal  Venturi HF would be the way to go.

 

As for the cooler, yeah it's probably possible to move the radiator over to the front, i'll take a look at doing that! For now i'll keep them exhausting

You don't have to get those in particular. Any airflow optimized fan will do. That's just what I tend to use.

Hmmm. I think THIS is the bracket, but I don't know how useful bottom mounted fans will be in that case. Is there space for the air to get from the PSU basement up into the primary chamber? If there is limited space for the air to squeeze up into the primary chamber, then it might be best to go with a pair of pressure optimized 120mm fans.

With this case, the section at the bottom containing the PSU is covered by a metal plating that can be entirely removed, it;s just there to hide the bulk of the wires and make things look a bit neater. SO i suppose, removing it would better suit the 140mm AirFlow fans, but keeping it on would be better suited to 120mm SP fans. Seems i have a choice to make!

 

When looking at fans, I assume they clearly state somewhere on the specs if they are SP or AF optimized? Thanks!

The good ones should. Generally though, airflow fans have steeper angled blades with gaps in between them, and pressure fans have shallow angled blades with little to no gap. Pressure fans also tend to have higher RPM than their Airflow counterparts.
