Outlandish Cooling Idea

Chatting to someone about water cooling.

I'm in the why bother camp. Its fun to build but money.

 

So my mind wandered and I thought about all those liquid nitrogen pots covered in tape and paper towels.

Too much cooling = condensation

So get rid of the condensation. 

Vacuum sealed case with a layer of silica gel packs?

Almost seems plausible.

 

Needs more crazy.

 

Mineral oil submersion.

Think about the film Sunshine, and the submerged "cores"

That's more sci-fi. (displace any water)

 

So the rig is like a vertical server chassis. Two handles, a power cord and the flow and return poking above the water line.

Apply the super cooled coolant of choice and over clock.

 

There, I've written it down now. I can forget it.

Obviously mineral oil has been used. (that why I'm posting here, Linus' project is classic)

Now put liquid nitrogen through a water cooling loop as well

It's not that simple... But it's been done.

I think i mentioned condensation being an issue and trying to mitigate it.

The mineral oil freezes at like -4C, might be an issue.

Are you sure? I thought it was -60, but maybe petroleum =/= mineral oil

Come on people be nice, its not like there is some magic tool that can be used to check the web if an idea has been done before (at least, not that i could find using google... oh... wait...)

Sounds like a cool project ("badum, tsss"). As above mentioned oil might freeze, but hey, add antifreeze?

 

Even if it wouldnt work it would make a nice show of someone destroying their pc, so win-win either way

just imagine if there was a person that tried outlandish PC builds and was able to fund the experiments with sponsorship...

there could be a really good career in that.

No enthusiast loop in there, just dump the PC in and cool the whole lot.
