I've got an old nzxt Kraken (x60 I think, I got it in 2013) paired with an I7 4770k overclocked at 4.1ghz and 1.2v

I recently replaced the thermal paste (something I do fairly regularly) but for some reason this time I've been keeping an eye on the temps, but without having paid them much mind for a while I'm not sure if they're looking ok or not.

Under a realistic load (aida 64) the CPU caps out at 69/70 degrees C and the AIO lquid at about 49/50 degrees.

If I do something synthetic like prime 95 or prime grid the CPU very quickly hits 96 degrees C (I'm aware these loads aren't typical and generate more heat) and then thermal throttles a little, 3-5%. The AIO liquid never gets above 55 degrees.

When I cut the load the CPU will drop from 96 to 50 almost instantly so it does seem like it's dumping heat effectively, but it seems strange that the liquid never gets above 55.

Is that the best I can get or does it imply that there is some issue with the heat getting from the heat sink into the liquid?

Thanks

is your voltage stock, or has that been raised as well?

Voltage is raised as well, I'm not super concerned about the cpu temp in and of itself I know it will be high. It's more of a should my cpu be dumping more heat into my AIO. IE do I have a bad thermal interface between the 2 (though I've reseated it just to be sure) or is it that even with optimal contact the max thermal transfer rate is low enough to the point that the liquid will never get beyond 55 odd degrees no matter how hot the cpu gets?

if it makes you feel any better my cpu does that as well.

i have watched that temp climb to 95c and skydive all the way down to 50c that i have lost count.

but again, you have a old processor so its efficiency is not going to be state of the ark or anything.

Never got to use an aio on this chip but mine only goes to 4.2,delidded it. Doesn’t even touch 40, very difficult to get it to move.

Id assume it’s normal given how my other older chips were with stock tim.
