I will be doing heavy CAD works and programming on Deep learning and stuffs. So i thought threadripper is good. What advantage does 3950x take over threadripper 3960x?

The only advantage of the 3950X is the price. Only go for the HEDT-platforms such as threadripper if you really need the extra cores or more PCIe expansion, as these platforms are way more expensive. The 3960X is better in pretty much any way if money is not a concern.

I am planning on building a new PC that should be compatible for CAD, video rendering and AI and deep learning works. So I have choosen AMD THREADRIPPER 3960X CPU along with ASROCK TRX40 CREATOR Motherboard. Is my selection good or should I consider changing it? Any suggestions please..

You can save a lot of money by going with a 3950X and a decent X570 board. But if you really need the extra cores and/or PCIe lanes the 3960X will be a good choice aswell.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Cheaper platform , and that's really it

They are both good cpu's it's just one is for a different audience

If you will take advantage of the extra lanes and the extra cores ( so over 16 ) and the better imc for more capacity

Go for the TR if you want

A 3950x won't be bad either

Ok. If I were to select between i9 10th gen and 3950x which one would u prefer? Because the core count on i9 is 20 and supports OC upto 5.3GHz but the only adv of ryzen is its multithreading. So wants ur suggestion?
