You'll probably get 3 years of satisfactory gaming at 1080p before you need to make sacrifices in res. In terms of upgrades theres the i5/7 series. GPU upgrades will probably be Volta (successor to 900 series I believe).

I know there is no such thing as future proof, so, how long can I expect to play games at medium to high settings with good framerate with an i3-4130?

other specs are GTX 760, 8 GB RAM, B85 motherboard

That video card is not a high-end graphics card even by today's standard so I don't expect it to be able to run future games on 1080p with ultra details and AA turned on. The processor is basically a dual core... Considering the fact that most modern games and applications are being optimized for quad core CPUs and potentially even more, I don't expect it to perform that well in future AAA titles as well.

Unless you plan to play the same games, which you are going to play now in 2, 3, 4 years, this system is probably not that "future-proof" compared to others. I know that this is not what you were expecting to hear, but this is the truth.

If you haven't already bought the parts I would recommend to step up to an i5 and a GTX 770 ot AMD R9 280X.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 - 3900x @ 4.4GHz with a Custom Loop | MBO: ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme | RAM: 4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz overclocked to 3933MHz with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT | SSDs: Intel 660P 512GB SSD and Intel 660P 1TB SSD | HDD: 2x WD Black 6TB and Seagate Backup Plus 8TB External Drive | PSU: Corsair RM1000i | Case: Cooler Master C700P Black Edition | Build Log: here

GTX 770/280x would in no way be worth the money at this stage. For the time being he should wait his computer is fine for gaming currently.

He is asking if it is future proof or not... Waiting for Maxwell will be a while as well if that's what you are implying. High-end cards are expected to arrive no sooner than Q3-Q4 of this year so...
