Hello Everyone,

I recently posted in the troubleshooting part of the forum for an issue I've been having with my 2950x system. Basically the frame rate I get in games is fine however in games like Far Cry 5 I get a noticeable stutter that occurs every few seconds. Almost like mini freezes that last for a split second when playing. One of the members suggested that the issue might be the fact that it is a 2nd gen threadripper which has latency issues.

So I think what I'm going to do is build a new system. I had a few questions about the performance of threadripper 3 and the am4 3950x in regards to gaming. The system will be used for gaming, video encoding, streaming and potentially in the future for video editing and coding.

I'd like to know if anyone knows if the 3rd gen threadrippers can game without this stuttering that occurs with the 2950x?

Also does the 3950x face any of these issues?

I believe although I could be wrong but I believe 3rd gen threadripper doesn't face this issue because it each numa group has its own connection to ram. I BELIEVE that was the issue and its now not a thing.

For the most part

More cache and better core arrangements and cache layout and better imc and FCLK

no, but still wait for zen 3 , a 2950x will definitely do the job for now

Honestly I love threadripper for the connectivity. I don't have any devices blocking each other. With the bandwidth on AM4 and careful review of my connections I'm pretty sure AM4 would be fine right now but thats the biggest thing that draws me to threadripper stupid amounts of PCIe lanes.
