I was happily playing minecraft on my pc(gtx 1070 N i5-9400f) when suddenly my pc shuts down on its own. My pc is only 2 months old. So i got worried and tried to push on the power button but nothing happens. There was no sign of life... the fans and case lights, nothing was alive. So i thought it could be due to over heating. So i left my pc for one hour. When i came back nothing happened. So i bought it back to the seller and told him all that happened. He said due to a power surge my gpu had spoiled and that i was lucky that none of the other components were damaged. When i anylised my psu it clearly says that it is well protected from power surges( my psu is a hyperK 600W). Now i am confused that was this caused really by the power spike or was it cause of the gpu was already trash and the shop keeper was blaming the power surge.

I am worried cause i don't want to damage my gpu again if there is a power surge cause my gpu warrenty was only three months. so what should i do?

please reply to me asap so i can take action fast... PLEASE I BEG...

Replace the GPU since you still have a month of warranty left. If the same problem happens again, it will be due to a faulty PSU. Remember that components, like GPUs, draw power via the PSU based what they think they need. The PSU only follows the demands of the system. In your case, it seems there was an error with the GPU.

First of all THANKS FOR REPLYING!!! it means a lot to me, I AM SUPER SCARED RIGHT NOW... cause i think i got scammed for the gpu part. i don't think i can return the gpu, cause the shop keeper refuses to take it back. I used the warrenty and sent the gpu back to hong kong. They will send me the fixed one within 6-8 weeks from today... by then the warrenty of the gpu will be over so if it spoils again i would have to buy a new one 😢. btw i would like to tell u that my gpu was from a clearance sale by zotac.

I see. So he identified the problem was the GPU then. You should be good with the replacement GPU then I think. Let's hope that only the GPU was the issue and that the PSU for example wasn't causing problems too as alabistyr said. That would suck if you got your replacement and the PSU destroyed that too, as that can happen. What happened to your computer was definitely weird. Sorry I can't be of much more help. :(

No dude you have no idea how much you have help by simply talking to me about it... But i don't understand one thing, my hyperK 600W supply clearly says it is protected with ocp, ovp, scp then why is the shop keeper telling me to buy a surge protector for the pc?

Yeah that does seem strange, he's probably just looking to get more money from you. I'm really not qualified to talk about surge protection in PSU's or in general so maybe someone else here could help you better. Hope you get your system sorted out man with no more dead components, especially during a time like this when the hardware costs are high. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Thanks a lot for replying bro, i have to wait 6-8 weeks now. After that i will finally have my pc. its probably the gpu cause in comparasion to other components it has the shortest warrenty periode. i think my power suppy is good enough.

one more question... if the gpu is faulty, can it cause the whole pc to shut down and never boot up again? cause when the shop keeper removed the gpu the pc was alive.

That's the weird thing to me, usually the computer should still atleast try to boot (atleast I think so??). So your computer not even powering on seems strange. I really don't know.
