Hello world,

I am looking for a project laptop to work on mostly for fun.

I would like it to have a socketed cpu (one that would outperform modern CPUs, as long as it is pretty darn powerful), swappable ram, 2.5' bay, etc and it should be easy to work on.

What would be the options?

(You know second hand form ebay or whatever, under 250 if possible)

The laptop itself doesnt have to come with crazy high specs as I want to do the upgrades myself.

It doesnt nee to have a dedicated GPU as long as the CPU is propperly powerful.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

(ThinkPads are a bit too mainstream)

E.

CPU-wise on a laptop even if socketed you'll typically be limited to minor upgrades within the same gen and maybe even only within the exact selection that was available as options when buying it in the first place, so you're not going to turn a dog into a powerhouse.

Asus made a laptop with a 1700 desktop and full AM4 socket. Clevo also have full 3900X laptops available on retail at the moment.
