Need Help Choosing Between Setup

Go to solution Solved by BobVonBob,

Gaming on super-ultrawides can be a bit of a hassle. A lot of games, especially ones made more than 3-4 years ago, don't let you keep UI near the center of the screen, and while that's a problem on a regular ultrawide, it's a very big problem on a super-ultrawide. Plus extra monitors allows much greater flexibility with fullscreen applications.

Hey all,

I've decided to upgrade my displays to some sort of ultrawide due to the great things I have heard about them.

I'm struggling to decide between 2 setups:

1. 34inch 3440x1440p IPS 120Hz with 2 Vertical 4k Monitors:

r/ultrawidemasterrace - Jedi Fallen Order supports custom and dynamic resolutions!

Pros:

  • Space for secondary applications (discord, spotify, stream chat, etc.)
  • Higher framerates and settings (lower res)

2. Single 49inch 5k Super Ultraiwde:

r/ultrawidemasterrace - Minimalistic setup in living room

Pros:

  • Looks Sick
  • More Immersive

Cons:

  • Harder to drive = lower settings and framerates.

TIA!

personally leaning towards the first setup, offers more versatility for more apps. also i dont think gaming at with that big of a screen is enjoyable at that close of a distance

It's a personal preference thing, do you want 3 separates or 1 super?   I'd go 3x personally but I am not you.

I agree with @Oswin. I'm a huge UW advocate, but I feel 49" is just too big. I think a 3440x1440 + x2 side monitors is perfect. You get the UW gaming experience, with the productivity of side monitors.

The only thing that was really advantageous about the s-iltrawide was the potential extra space for the timeline, etc when editing videos.  Would you pay an extra £300 for it?

the ultra+dual 4K is cheaper, so I’m leaning towards that.

I mean maybe? I'm not big into editing so I'm probably not the best to answer that, but I personally feel like 34" of ultrawide timeline is a lot.

here i am thinking a 22" is enough for a timeline, i dont edit much. if im an editor maybe i would get it, but i would still think its too much tbh.
