Video editing PC build

Go to solution Solved by Mateyyy,

The 1660 Super is a really solid in-between option, I'd suggest checking that out too.

What power supply model are you looking to get?

Also, sort of unrelated, I'd suggest getting a 3700X instead of the 3800X and getting some 3600MHz CL16 memory instead of 3000MHz.

Hi everyone, i am building a video editing pc capable of editing 4k footage with this specs:

- Ryzen 7 3800x

- 32GB 3000MHz ram

- 1TB nvme ssd

But i don't know if i should buy the GTX 1660 or the RTX 2060, is it worth the extra money for the 2060? will it make that much of a difference?

And also idk if a 650w power supply is enough or if i should buy a more powerful one.

If you are not gaming or gpu rendering then the gpu will not be utilized in a video editing only rig.

Are you going to be using the gpu to render or for anything else?

I want to use gpu acceleration in Premiere Pro and also some effects work faster with a gpu.

In that case either will do well. if you have any interest in ray tracing in the future you'll want the 2060 so you can consider that otherwise either can gpu render just fine.

Thank you! I will check out that gpu. Idk much about power supplies, this is my first pc build actually, it would be helpful if you can recommend me one.

Do you think it is not worth the 3800x over the 3700x?

A high quality 550W unit will be more than enough for this kind of a system. My picks would be Corsair's RM550x and be quiet's Straight Power 11 550W.

The 3800X is basically just a binned 3700X - nothing more really. Putting the money you save by going with a 3700X towards a better memory kit (3600MHz CL16) will give you a larger performance benefit than if you were to go with the 3800X and 3000MHz memory. So basically no, I don't think it's worth getting the 3800X.

Thank you so much! I will take your advice
