Hello everyone! Sorry if this isn't the correct thread for my post, but I'm looking for some advice. I want to restore an old Acer Aspire 5315-2847, which has

-Intel Celeron M 560

-120 GB HDD

-512 MB RAM (Yep)

I installed 2 GB of RAM and the computer was suddenly usable (It had Windows XP and it was completely useless).

I installed windows 10 and it actually works pretty well! Just one problem... The video chip doesn't have updated drivers, so the screen resolution sucks (It has a 1280x800 screen, but I can only use 1024x768 or 800x600 resolution).

According to DXDIAG, the graphics chip is Intel's "GM965/PM965/GL960", and the label on the laptop says it's a X3100 accelerator.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to fix that, any kind of third party software that circumvents this problem, or any way to adapt the older drivers to Windows 10, thanks everyone!

EDIT: If there's no solution, I can always install Windows 7, but since it's running out of support soon (If it didn't already), I much rather it have win10

Can you find a Windows XP driver, or a Windows 7 driver for it? You might be able to install it in Windows 10. Probably not though.

Not an option, I already thought of that but the computer is meant for an older lady that's used to Windows

try this. I looked up your chip and found this intel driver site. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81508/Graphics-Drivers-for-Mobile-Intel-965-Express-Chipset-Family Note that there IS no windows 10 support. If you want a third party driver you are gonna have to dig real deep. would be more janky than your average "did i get scammed" ltt video

Yep, I tried this just like half an hour ago. It was installing and then the screen went black, but you could tell it was still backlit. Then, a cursor appeared and it was much sharper looking, which makes me think it was the correct resolution. However, it didn't go back to Windows desktop. I'm letting it sit for a while, I don't know if it's still installing or if the driver simply doesn't work. I'll go back to it in a while and check if the driver works. If it doesn't, I'll just install Windows 7

windows 7 seems like the only choice for this display. Unless you want to spend the time and take the risk of finding and downloading any hacked drivers
