You could do a metered connection, making it impossible for it to finish.  But it would also stop you using the internet elsewhere....unless you could also pause the download or stop it restarting by blocking it in firewall.

You could test this easily enough by running a metered 100mb, see if it stops the download, if it stops it, then block in firewall and see if that stops it starting up again when you unmeter your connection.

My network is already at metered connection, thats the reason why its showing a option to download the update or I can just completed skip it. How do i block the update in firewall (Can you please explain) and during the steps you said do I have to keep my pc on for the amount of days it take to update ?

I am assuming your metered connection is not set in Windows but perhaps at your phone company? Or else you would have understood the meaning I was going for I think.

Make sure all your browsers and anything connected to the internet is off.

If you go to Settings in windows, go to Network & Internet, you should see your connection to the internet, if you click on Properties the second option is metered connection.

Turn it to ON.  Then "Set a data limit to help control data usage on this network" exists as a blue line, click on it and it will take you back a screen and you can click on Data Usage next to properties.

You can then set a monthly data usage limit, set it to whatever you want to spend on the update, so if it 200mb, leaving 1800mb for the day's gaming. (or more, you decide).

Then click on update, and it should update no more than the 200mb that you have allowed, it should then stop, because you have a metered connection set for 200mb.

I suggest googling how to block windows update in your firewall, because one, I have never had a need to do it and two, I can't be bothered to google it for you.

This should allow for you to let the update get 200mb per day, without taking any more.

There might be a better way, this is only my suggestion.

I have never done this btw, so no idea if it will all work out, do let us know.

Why not just go somewhere that has free wifi and download it?

Its a pc, why would I carry a huge tower to public place with monitor, keyboard and mouse. And I live in India, it's still a developing country so wifi at restaurants are very low speed I would have to spend a day there. And due to covid-19 the country is at lockdown. :(

Why even install 2004 right now?  It's still in 'beta' as there are lots of bugs being reported.  I delay every big update by at least 75 days as I don't need any of the 'new' features that come with 2004.  I assume you are on 1909, just stay with it.

Workstation PC Specs: CPU - i7 8700K; MoBo - ASUS TUF Z390; RAM - 32GB Crucial; GPU - Gigabyte RTX 1660 Super; PSU - SeaSonic Focus GX 650; Storage - 500GB Samsung EVO, 3x2TB WD HDD;  Case - Fractal Designs R6; OS - Win10

Yes I'm currently on Version 1909. But microsoft stops supporting older versions of windows 10, when they release new one. Its not a problem now but it will be in future. And a lot of games just disagree to even run on older versions of windows 10

So I set a data limit. Accordingly it should have stopped when it hit 100 MB but instead it just kept going with a warning to disconnect your ethernet in action center. Is windows broken :/

You can disconnect your connection, then set the firewall block, then reconnect.

Then when you reconnect, you will have internet, but the update shouldn't continue?

While I am disappointed that the metered connection and data usage doesn't actually do anything other then tell you (I mean what is the point of that) it doesn't change the course of action just means you have to take more manual steps then I had hoped would be required.

The real question is whether, if you stop the connection, the update will resume or whether it will start from 0 again.

What you say about Microsoft not supporting older versions is not entirely true.  They support earlier versions as well until a public announcement is made.  Too many professional IT departments won't install the latest major version until at least a year out.  You are safe on 1909 at least until sometime in 2021.  I am not a gamer so I cannot comment about your second statement but I would be surprised if games fail on 1909 as long as you keep your drivers updated.

Just stick with 1909 right now and don't worry.  Your chances of having some bad bugs with 2004 are greater than any issues with 1909.

Thats true but Version 1909 i currently have was forced by Microsoft to install. They had a warning in Windows Update when I was using Version 1904 saying your version of windows will be soon out of support. Games like GTA wont even start and even if I contact GTA Support they ask you to keep your windows up to date.

Anyways man I will stick to 1909 untill that warning appears cuz everything seems to work fine. Thanks :)

You'll have full gaming support.

What you'll loose are specific... features, such as the latest DirectX12 APIs (assuming a game is using it (probably won't until, at the very least, until teh next XBox is released), and other improvements which may affect gaming performance, such as hardware accelerated GPU scheduling (which is something that GPU drivers needs to not only implement, but also optimize, so it may takes a few months, and even then, we don't know the the performance improvements. Games should work just fine, as this is a toggle on/off in the May Update, and GPU driver needs to support it.
