My current PC is dated, and I seem to be experiencing more and more CPU bottlenecks for newer game titles like COD.

My current setup is:

AMD FX-6300

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

GeForce GTX 760
16gb RAM

Is it worth it to OC the CPU or GPU to get some extra frames? It would be great to get medium quality from some newer titles and not have so much downscaling or pixelation.

Also during things like Apex or COD:MW the CPU is staying nearly pegged at 100%, but GPU isn’t maxed out.

any suggestions on how to better optimize performance before I can do an upgrade?

overclocking can help a little, but not enough to really make much of a difference overall with as old and dated hardware as you're running.

The 6300 has a pretty high boost clock compared to some low end Ryzen chips, so it would be worth OCing the CPU, maybe not the GPU, but you'd have to just google it.

You can go up to 4.1ghz and it would probably be fine, just make sure your PSU can handle it.

Wouldn't help a whole ton of a lot, but just a bit.

I can give you a list of a cheap upgrades if you'd like, you could greatly improve your system for like 200 bucks or less, depends on how much you want to spend.

That doesn't mean anything

It has a bad outdated fpu and not to mention it's ipc count is really bad

Yeah what could give decent performance and allow me time to research a new build?

Well you can always pick up a lower end Ryzen chip, like a 3200g or a 1600AF, these go for around 100 bucks.

In terms of a graphics card, if you're on a budget go for a RX 560, 570, or 580, these are all around the pricepoint of 80-180$

Alternatively, you could go onboard graphics which is much cheaper but I wouldn't recommend it. But you can do this and get decent performance in esports titles and then pop a graphics card in down the line, some good IGPUs aka APUs are the Ryzen 3 3200g or the Ryzen 5 2400G.

He will also need a new motherboard and new RAM.

And if he's going to upgrade the whole system anyway soon, why not just get 2600 / 2700 / 3600 now and buy the GPU later when he has more money.

Yes but that doesn't matter as much as a CPU/GPU.

Don’t want to turn this into a build thread...is the 3700 good for a solid gaming/streaming/productivity build?

If you have the money for it, yes.

You can also check lowspecgamer from youtube if you're short on money and need to make the current build work for a little while longer.

The new CPU won't do anything if he doesn't have motherboard to put it on, and the am4 motherboards don't support ddr3 memory.

Oh yes a motherboard that has a different pin layout and a different dimm support doesn't matter

I didn't say that it doesn't matter, I'm saying if you pick a good mobo with the features you need that's compatible with your parts, it doesn't matter the specific one, as long as it fits those categories.

Mobos do matter

So does ram especially with multiple ccxs like with ryzen

I'm just saying you need to include those in your budget and upgrade recommendations.

There are people here who know very little about computers, so they might think they don't need to upgrade their motherboard or ram and break their new cpu.

Fixing stupid typo.
