Hi everyone,

First post here although iv been reading the forums for a while.

I currently am having issues with my WiFi and am in need of suggestions.

First I'll layout my current network.

I'm in UK and have 100mb broadband.

The WiFi on the router is awfull so I changed it to a modem mode and bought a tp link access point (quite a cheep one). All was good untill recently and now my WiFi is constantly lossing internet or been incredibly slow. It's not a signal strength to my devices as I have full bars (unless there is a device on the edge of connectivity slowing the network down?) I also don't think its interference as I have good signal and am in a detached house With a good distance to any other houses. I can only just pick up 1 or two other networks and sometimes none when I scan.

Anyway iv got cat6e that runs to every room in the house going through a gigabits switch so I can place the access point anywhere in house.

So here is where I need help. My house isn't that big so will I be fine upgrading to a good access point? (I have signal at least 3 out of 5 bars in every room) If so do you have suggestions on a good one? Or should I go for a mesh network?

Thank you for reading matt

@Mattlekim

  1. What are the brands/models of all devices on your network (excluding client devices like laptops, TVs, phones, etc.)?
  2. Run speed tests while directly plugged into the ISP device and your TP-Link device. Post your results here.
  3. Run a wireless survey using WiFi Analyzer close to where your wireless access point is located. Post the screenshots of the 'Anaylze' (run for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) and 'Networks' page. Please obfuscate any WAN IP addresses or MAC addresses that you don't want others to see, but highlight your SSID.
  4. How many devices do you normally have connecting at once, whether over WiFi or wired?
  5. Can you post a rough sketch of your home's floor plan, identifying where your important network devices are located?
