(Used to have the EVGA supernova, but it died a while back and have been using some older, no efficiency psu in the meantime.)

I plan on upgrading my current build to pass it down to my bro and have bought the majority of the parts for the upgrade.

The only things I plan on bringing from the old PC is the 1TB hard drive, the SSD, the gpu, the keyboard, and mouse. Currently, I am just waiting for news on the new xt cpus from AMD and holding off on buying the 3900X until I find out if it's worth it or not. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Also, I plan on upgrading the gpu sometime in the future, as I want to be able to make use of the freesync on my monitors. I've been looking at used gtx 1080 tis, but if I should be looking else where please let me know. I am happy to wait until a new series of gpu drop to try and get a used one for a good deal, so any prices of specific gpus that I should look out for is also appreciated. Finally, I have gigabit internet and was wondering if my SSD might be bottle necking it during downloads. If so, a recommendation for either an SSD or nvme for a future upgrade would be nice.

I think your cpu will be bottlenecked by the gpu. New gpus from nvidia and amd are coming soon so look at one of those for a potential upgrade. I doubt your ssd will bottleneck the Ethernet connection. Samsung is known for making the best quality ssds but Crucial p1 is my recommendation for a budget nvme ssd.

I'll just comment on the SSD part, so 1 gigabit per second comes out to 125MB/s and the 860 Evo has write speeds of 520MB/s so it will handle any downloads or FTPs without a hiccup.

Any specific gpu in mind that wouldn't bottleneck the cpu, such as the 1080 ti?

It really depends on your workload. If you are gaming, probably like a 1080 ti or 2070 super. Cheapest like a 2060 super.

for a cpu heavy load you should be fine with what you have though.

I think you will be fine with a 3700X for most things, tough if you will run 2 VMs at the same time how ever sure go for it. :I

Main reason why I'm even considering the 3900x, really need them cores.
