just turning on when cpu temp (IDLE) is hitting 60c or 70c? (might turn on ever 2-5min, run for 2min and turning off again)

That just means it will keep turning on and off the whole time

I would leave it on better than it turning on and off consistently imo

But I could be wrong

Always on is WAY better. I have an old D5 pump that's more than 5 years old and still runs like a dream, you really don't have to worry about the pumps wearing out soon.

If you are worried just add a flow indicator to the loop and you'll always know if its working.

If you turn anything on and off repeatedly you drastically shorten its lifespan.

Seems pointless to ever have the pump turn off.
Id rather it run at a low speed than to ever shut off.

Depends on your pump, if you get one with a variable speed controller it's totally fine to set it to like 80% ish so you still get decent flow and not as much noise.

At max speed durability might be a concern but a lil slower is fine.
