That sounds like a great Idea, It would hide the often ugly 24-pin power cable! 

 

If I were to make a guess, the small indent on the socket where the clip on the power cable goes is always on the south side of the connector, right angle would obstruct that, causing a form-factor change.

That would be extremely hard to plug in, you might have to do it before you mount your motherboard.

Well they need to take into account all of the situations where it won't work, and weigh that up against the benefits of it (which are really only aesthetic).

From the manufacturers point of view its really not worth it to lose a bit of board space and potentially create compatibility issues with a lot of cases.

EVGA X99 Classified has right angle connectors.... And a 24pin...
