My power supply is making this ticking noise, it gets louder under load and sometimes it stops if I tilt the case. I'm confused as this is a fairly new power supply, I only got it back in 2019. Any help would be appreciated

did you check if the fan is dirty?

That's a pretty crappy model. I'd strongly suggest replacing it with a good quality one before more dangerous issues arise.

^ this

Also please don't use it if it is ticking

It could be basically a bomb and a fire hazard

I have had an issue where one of the fan connector cables has come loose from the fan frame, and with the PSU facing downwards fan blades would touch the cable causing a ticking sound. Using a flashlight you can look inside and see if this isn't the problem. Do not disassemble the power supply though. That would be quite dangerous.

This was kinda on par with what I was thinking initially, have sometimes seen cables not routed or tied down properly come into minor contact with fan blades to make this type of sound.

I guess there goes my savings. :/

If you bought it in 2019 it’s under warranty, I would buy a different one from what I’ve seen online with those psus, but rma your old one and if they give you a new power supply with the warranty just sell that one to help lessen the blow of buying a new psu, also have you looked inside the psu with a flashlight to see if the fan is hitting something? (Do not open the psu cover) that might also be your issue

I have looked inside, couldn't see anything. I have tried sticking a pencil inside (while it was off) to see if I could move anything that might be blocking it, but there wasn't anything.

Probably $100

Rm/rmx650 seasonic focus gx 650. Corsair txm is pretty good. Cooler master Mwe gold. My favorite is the seasonic because they are a great manufacturer but times are tough so any of things would problably be fine unless your running a 2080 or something, where I would limit your choices to the Corsair rmx or the focus gx
