I would recommend getting a new system instead of trying to upgrade it. But yes an i7 2700k will work in that system.

Thank you so much!
and i cant upgrade rn, tbh i dont need an upgrade other than the processor. ill upgrade ram eventually when i feel like i need 16gb now. other than that its working perfect.

A 2700k isn’t much of an upgrade anyways, it’s still from the same generation. What’s the most you can spend on an upgrade?

Don't waste money on sandy bridge. Get some more saved up and get a Ryzen 3 3300X as that's massively more powerful than the best i7 you can buy for that board

i just use this pc mainly for gaming

Don’t upgrade now. Upgrading to a 2700k is just going to leave you dissapointed. If you can save up to about 300 dollars you can upgrade these parts.

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $166.89 @ Walmart
Motherboard Gigabyte B450M DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $72.99 @ Best Buy
Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory $73.98 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total $313.86

And yes I know it says it needs a bios update to work with this cpu but I have this exact cpu and motherboard and they work just fine out of the box.

Why this board and why this cpu ?

The board sucks

And a 3300x will be WAY more than enough

A pro 4 is way better than the ds3h

3600 is overkill for OP's situation

A 3300x will do the job

You cannot use your old ram, you need new ram. Also your old cooler will not work, but the 3600 comes with a stock one which is good as long as you don’t overclock. Cpu and board are obviously important, a 2700k is the most that will work with your old motherboard, and it’s like 8 years old.

Yes, this processor needs ddr4 to work properly. And tofuharoto said that the ds3h is not a great motherboard, but it’s only 70 dollars, you might be paying more than 120 for a better one. And like I said I’ve had it for a while and have had no issues.

Just because you have it doesn't make it good. It's a horrible board that should never b recommended to anyone

The Pro4 is about 74 dollars. Stop trying to get him to buy one of the worst boards possible. I'll start reporting it as trolling
