Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CSGO

Hey folks,

All help is appreciated.

I only play CSGO. I currently have a i7-9700F , MSI 2060 super, asrock b360m ib-r1, 16 gb 2666 ddr4, 500 gig wd green ssd. I attached a picture for reference if I left out something pertinent. Ethernet at a gig. Monitor is MSI MPG341CQR.

i used to be a ranked player..cs 1.3. Yeah a long time ago. So I got back into playing about 3 months ago and picked up that rig at Costco for 900 bucks, seemed like a screaming deal. It was brought in for a demonstration for staff, used for an hour and sold to me. I’m not quite back to my old skill level, but my ratio is comfortably at 4-1.

I’m naive now, I don’t know about the newest tech etc. I got my MCSE and A+ 17 years ago, but changed fields.

I want to know if my current rig is the best for what I’m doing. I want the absolute best for CSGO.

Also, any tips on a gaming laptop with the same requirements I listed for the desktop?

Sorry, I’m long winded but I want you guys to know exactly where I’m at.

thank you for your knowledge and help in advance

j

Your current system is still very good for even the latest AAA titles, for CS:GO it's more than plenty.

Those timings on the memory look very loose, but it's not uncommon for prebuilts to have super cheap RAM (and storage, PSUs, things 90% of people won't really care about too much) and it's not the end of the world.

If you want to build a PC yourself (which will obviously be better than getting a prebuilt for both better value for money and wiser part selection), I'd suggest waiting until at least early Q4, when we'll most likely be getting Nvidia's Ampere cards and probably AMD's Zen 3.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

You can literally play CSGO on a microwave. What FPS are you getting now?

I'd say anything that drives 1080p 144hz is good enough for competitive.

Gaming Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x   |  GPU: Asus ROG STRIX 2080 SUPER Advanced (2115Mhz Core | 9251Mhz Memory) |  Motherboard: Asus X570 TUF GAMING-PLUS  |  RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3600MHz 16GB  |  PSU: Corsair RM850x  |  Storage: 1TB ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, 250GB Samsung 840 Evo, 500GB Samsung 840 Evo  |  Cooler: Corsair H115i Pro XT  |  Case: Lian Li PC-O11

Peripherals:

Monitor: LG 34GK950F  |  Sound: Sennheiser HD 598  |  Mic: Blue Yeti  |  Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum  |  Mouse: Logitech G502

Laptop:

Thank you so much for responding. With msi afterburner activated, stock settings, I show 200-250 fps.

I don’t want to throw good money away, I’ll buy the best ram. What is the best ram you would recommend given my existing specs?

What monitor do you have now? Upgrading anything seems pretty pointless if you're getting 200-250fps...

For cs:go, a 9600k with a mobo that lets you oc is already enough, once oced it’s basically as good as a 9900k for gaming

doesn't matter with the board you already have, it's already running your ram at the highest speed the board supports. you can get a better GPU instead but it's not necessary well past the refresh rate anyway.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

I’m not interested in overclocking as I’m not familiar. Is my motherboard legit? It seems like basic junk from what I’ve been able to find. If I buy the 300 dollar board can I run top shelf memory?

If all you care about is CSGO, then to be honest upgrading right now is pointless. You're rocking a 144hz monitor, and you're getting well over 200FPS. You could upgrade to a 3900x, and 2080Ti on a X570 Godlike, with 128GB DDR4-40000, and it essentially won't matter, because you're PC is currently outperforming what your monitor can drive.

Ok, so basically leave it alone. The FPS moves during scenes, but never falls below 144.

I thought I was doing great by getting that monitor, I thought the rig was the weak link.

Ok, that’s what I was wondering. So pretty much leave well enough alone ?

The hertz that a monitor drives essentially means that's the max amount of FPS your monitor "displays". So since you have a 144hz monitor, everything over 144fps is more or less "useless" (for lack of a better word).

yeah why not.

The budget is whatever. I want to be able to play CSGO at the same quality or better as my rig.

Well if you don't want to throw money away, then don't bother.

It maybe would've been worth getting a whole new kit of memory if you were running single-channel, but since you're not, the difference from the RAM you have now and a better kit, with a 9700F, will be pretty much unnoticeable.

Are you seriously looking for a laptop or no? Because there's $300-500 laptops that will run CSGO fine, and there's $3000-5000 laptops that will run it fine. We need a budget if you're serious, and if you're not its kind of a waste of peoples time to do research for you IMHO.

Definitely interested. Same requirements as the desktop. The budget doesn't really pertain. If a 1500 dollar laptop will do 99% of what a 5k laptop will do for csgo, thats what I'll go with.
