Software wise, I think galaxies get 2 years of major updates and 1 after that of security. On the other hand, I think pixels gets 3 years of major updates.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I feel that “better” may be the wrong word.   I’m a bit biased though.  I did really like the note.  Mostly for it’s astounding stylus.  That thing was incredible.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Depends on the particular phone you get and what you're expecting.

I'll be frank: the OS update policy is mediocre for Android all around, but if having the hottest updates for as long as possible matters and you don't want to get an iPhone, the Pixel series is what you want.

On the flip side, Samsung is more aggressive about hardware.  If you don't mind that you'll lose major updates after two years (and that they'll come half a year after Pixels get them), higher-end Galaxies can be compelling as long as you like the software.  And let's face it, Samsung's not-so-subtle attempts to mimic Apple have also  resulted in a few Apple-like experiences, like the integration you get with the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and the Galaxy Buds+.

I don't trust the Nexus/Google lineup at all. My Nexus 4 was a hot mess of terrible updates which made the phone sluggish. People are reporting the same thing with the Pixel and Pixel 2 phones.

At least Samsung phones age well. They're pretty smooth after 3 years.

Issue is the hardware isn't the same globally and the camera still lags behind.

Lol they've tried to mimic apple they're nowhere near pulling it off.

The cameras definitely have their flaws, but they're solid at least.  You do have a good point on the hardware, though.  The OP may have to deal with an Exynos version of devices like the Galaxy S20, which would be... less than ideal.

Samsung does occasionally get things right.  I know the Galaxy Buds+ have an easy setup, even if it's not so subtly riffing on the AirPods.
