Automating tasks through Task Scheduler

Hello,

I want to turn my laptop's hotspot on everytime I start it up.

Is it possible through the Task Scheduler? I mean I can figure out the trigger but not the programme to Run.

Also, what if I want to create a trigger that is triggered by pressing a combination of keys? How can I configure it?

Say by pressing Ctrl+alt+q the I want the computer to restart and open a few certain programmes. Can anyone help me do that?

Thanks.

Can you explain?

I don't know anything about that.

"autohotkey" is the name of the software, try look it up. It makes hotkeys by programming which gives flexibility, but also more difficult.

I did. Is there anything like that that is similar to Python?

I'm not aware of that, though I guess different codes look similar to someone without programming background like me

What do you mean by "hotspot" ?

Try to define your need more precisely and I can help.

Assigning hotkeys to do it shouldn't be hard. The AutoHotKey language is indeed very well suited for what you need.

Rebooting and launching x programs with a hotkey is doable too.

Specify what you want precisely and I'll try to produce something.

Hotspot is a pretty clear feature, turns your laptop WiFi into a hotspot ...

@tobeornottobealttfan

To make it easy, you can create a batch file, you can then place it in a run folder so that the hotspot will turn on only if a specific user is logged in, or use the task scheduler to turn it on when the laptop is turned on and there's no user connected.

First, make sure your hotspot is all setup in the settings, then create a .bat file with the following command in it ;

netsh wlan start hostednetwork //start hotspot

Use the task scheduler to execute the batch file, or place it in the start menu of a user.

Yeah.

I saw that elsewhere today. I will try that thanks.

I will comeback if it doesn't work.

Didn't work.

Firstly I tried to run the command myself from cmd it asked me to run it as administrator. When I did that it said "The hosted network couldn't be started"

"The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested action".

I should clarify that hosted network is not supported on my WIFI chip.

The hotspot is running throug "microsoft wifi direct virtual adapter" as "Local Area Connection 2"

Not sure I understand, to my knowledge, you can't make a hotspot on a virtual wifi adapter, if your wifi chip doesn't support hotspoting, you'll need a USB wifi adapter that does.

It was strange for me too because all the other articles said that a laptop without having support for hosted network cannot enable wifi hotspot on its own.

ButI can enable wifi hotspot without any external adapter.

I booted in an Ubuntu live disk and there too I was able to turn on my hotspot with the only difference being that my Wifi was turned off when the hotspot was on and vice versa.
