So I switched store region yesterday to download it. Wouldn't start at first, turned out I needed to have the Store signed in and tied to an Xbox account (I don't want to use online Windows accounts). Launcher loaded and started another big download, and soon enough I was in.

Today, went to start. Nothing happened. Went to store page: apparently app encountered an error. Joy. It offered to reinstall, but fortunately it seemed to re-verify already on disk files, and not have to download again. The same could not be said for the launcher which is downloading from network. This is no small download...

Anyway, putting that aside, I'm new to the PSO universe and what little I did see of the game yesterday was interesting enough I wanted to go back in today. The UI felt very dated and clunky but it is an older game, with a bit more mouse lag than I'm used to. Graphical performance was ok in instanced areas but the ship lobby or whatever it is called, frequently slowed down to a crawl. I've separately heard reducing the number of other players displayed can help, as well as turning off some video thing somewhere.

BTW system I'm running it on is a 6700T and 1070. So not the fastest but should be plenty for a game of this age. While playing yesterday I did observe the CPU usage, well below 50% when slowdowns happened.

The problems with requiring re-downloading continued on the original system, so I set up what would be my TV gaming PC. 7920X, 64GB ram, RTX2070. Overkill much? Yeah, CPU usage barely budges in game, and peak GPU usage didn't pass 50%. The extreme slowdown I saw on the 1st system didn't repeat. There are still some minor judders as other players load in, but it doesn't freeze the game now.

I have a theory on why the other system has some storage problems. Windows Store allowed me to select which drive to install its part, and I chose my 2nd drive. I'm just wondering if some kind of interaction between the Store client and Game client caused it to break after each use. I haven't confirmed the new system is free from this problem, but I did keep everything on C drive this time.

I should add, I'm still enjoying the game. Still not 100% up to speed on the mechanics and such but I'm making some kind of progress.
