Upgrading GPU

Looking to upgrade the GPU on the PC i gave my little brother awhile back. Not sure which GPU/GPUs would be best. Any info would be  helpful. I have been looking into the 1000/1600/2000 series.

 

Budget would be under 800-ish and also what would be best for the current CPU. Also what would be best for 1440p.

CPU: i7-5820k

MOBO: Asus x99-a/3.1

Memory:  DDR4 3000 32GB

Get him something like a 5700xt / 2070super / 2080super. 

 

Or wait for some time coz new ampere gpus will be out soon. Which claim to have significant upgrade in performance over the turning cards.

I was looking into the rtx 2000 series but wasn't too sure since everything else has some mileage on them. Also don't want to upgrade everything then I would just end up starting from scratch just wanted to see what would be the best GPU upgrade while staying with the same CPU/system

Wait for Ampere and RDNA2 in September/October. The 980Ti is still going strong.
