Bottleneck? irdk pls help!

my laptop (core i5 10210U) says it can go up to 4.2ghz but when i play games it only runs at base clock (1.6ghz) sometimes the framerate is fine around 70fps for rainbow 6 siege but sometimes it lag and be less than 30fps (this is the lowest settings) how can i fix this problem? the base clock things also applies to most games i play

laptop specs
CPU: i5 10210U
RAM: 12GB
GPU: nvidia mx250
Storage: 240gb SSD + 1tb HDD

Thermals perhaps? Or power plan? Laptop CPUs have a bad habit of never boosting, you should download XTU to see what the behavior of the CPU is like.

Yeah, most likely overheating, try using XTU to see.
