may I use a mini AMD 5700 XT (or full size), with a 13" macbook pro 2018?  Also witch e-gpu box should I use?  Do I NEED an extra display?  does the egpu support hot-pluging?

Also IF I download windows on the computer, will I be able to switch to mac with a click of a button?  (I don't care about speed of switching)  Also speaking of windows software, will I be able to use an nvidia gpu if I have windows on my mac?

It will work with a compatible egpu

You don't need an extra display

Also you have to turn macbook off and on again to switch operating systems

CAN you?  I think so, assuming there are drivers for the card.  Is it a good idea?  That’s more complicated.

The issue with egpu boxes is the thunderbolt connection is only so fast so putting in a faster gpu doesn’t necessarily buy you anything.  I’ve heard it said that the fastest gpu worth putting in an egpu box is a 580.  Ive also heard specifically with graphics arts macs of people also putting in vega56es because even though they are too fast the compute capacity is still useful.  Both are slower than a 5700xt.

as far as windows on Mac goes my data is old and possibly out of date.  the way it USED to be some years ago is if you wanted instant access to both OSes you needed 3rd party software.  There was something called parallels that did this.  There were speed problems. If you wanted to run windows under boot camp you actually booted into windows and had to restart the machine.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
