Hey guys, long time fan, first time on the forums.

I recently build a new rig for myself, mainly CSGO (That is almost exclusively the only game i play, and thats why i picked this hardware)

- I have been playing with some overclocking in the past, but i recently decided to "really" get into it, with this new build.

SO...

MSI MPG Gaming Plus z390

i5 9600kf (Cooled with Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4)

GTX 1060 OC version

16GB DDR4 3200MHz ram (XMP on)

I got my cpu clocked at 4.8 with 1.315 V Core. Im getting a 1185 score in Cinebench R15 with temps maxing out at 71 celsius.

In CSGO's FPS stress test i get 416 fps, with max temps at 58.

My idle temps is around 35-40 (which i think i pretty high?)

(I crashed at 4.8 with 1.310, and at 4.9 with 1.350)

From what i can find on other forums and what not, im not impressed with my results, compared to what others have gotten out of these chips.

Does anyone have an idea whats next for me to try? Any suggestions?

That being said, i cant complain about the performance, i mean CSGO is not the most advanced thing to throw at it, i just feel like i could (ab)use this system some more?

Thoughts?

If that is as far as you can get with these voltages then j guess that is it

And correct me if I'm wrong but that mobo has a 6 + 2 phase power design so pushing over 1.35 isn't necessarily advised

So maybe try 1.35 and then check how far you can come

@TofuHaroto

You are right, it does use a 6+2, i can also see that if im going higher than 1.350 in the bios, the numbers turn red, as kind of a warning. So i guess you are 100% right there.

Tho, if i use AUTO on volt, i goes pretty far past 1.350 by it self...

Yea auto voltage usually shoots WAYYY higher that the recommended voltage

That voltage number is what you set and see in BIOS or in the OS under stress test?

It's a 4 phase VRM for the CPU cores. MSI jammed iGPU, SA and IO VRM into the same area making it look more impressive than it actually is.

My system has an "11 phase" which really means 4 + 3 and it's perfectly fine at nearly 1.4v for over two years.

I wouldn't worry about the power delivery if your case flow is fine.

Others?

what is the VRM temperature reading when you run a stress test at your max?

Voltage wise, anything under 1.4 is "safe" for the CPU. What's "safe" for the motherboard will depend on the specific board, but if your VRM aren't going above 80c or so they should be okay.

Have you adjusted the LLC settings? You may find you can get 4.9ghz stable at 1.35 if you use a more aggressive LLC.

I say "safe" because it's the general accepted voltage that is estimated to be "safe". There's obviously no guarantees when overclocking.

As a personal anecdote, I have been at ~1.38v for almost 3 years without problems.

We aren't talking an 8-core here. We're talking about a 6-core without hyperthreading. I think you can get up to 1.375v or so without worry, as long as temps are fine.

Holy crap I didn't know that 😅

Alright. So with the information posted, you think i am where i should be, with this build?

I mean silicon lottery is really just luck

But mobo quality isn't I just now knew about that this mobo only a 4 phase power design like what @Jurrunio said so even pushing it to 1.4 is even more dangerous it sound like you just really lost the silicon lottery

NGL, 1.315V for 4.8 sounds like a bad lottery result.

I'm running 4.7 on 1.25V, with dynamic offset at - 0.035

He's at the point the voltage scaling start going down a hill.

Mine needs 1.360v at 5ghz, so about 1.310v at 4.8ghz.

However at 3.7ghz, I can get away with 1v.

that's 0.30v increase for 1100mhz base to OC all core.

not bad. pretty average.
