Earlier, shearme convinced me to go for 'serious brand' headphone, so I got the ATH-TAD300. Despite of being a 'budget' headphone (around $40), the sound from this ear-hugger is very nice for me, and I'm enjoying it very much.

Well, the next step for me is to get a headphone stand. Not many stores in my country sell those. Stores that carry them (audio specialist stores) only carry the more expensive ones. I don't think it's logical to have a headphone stand that is more expensive than the headphone itself. So I decided to try and build one myself. It so happens that I have a few small acrylic sheets leftover.

This is what I got afterward:

Obviously copying the SIeveking's or the Brainwavz's

I still got 1 more small long (rectangle) sheet, so I built another one:

Got the idea from the shape of the acrylic used to display shoes in the stores

The end product of this 2 stands are craps, compared to commercial products, obviously, because I'm in no mean good with handyworks. But the fact that I built them myself (despite of the crap results) gives that extra point in enjoying this headphone... :)

Dang nice job, mind eventually making a tutorial on how you made these? I'm sure alot of forum members would love to make some on their own too.

I thought of documenting the steps of making these, but they're actually so easy, that I ended up not documenting the steps.

If you look closely, those 2 stands are rectangular sheets originally. Just have to cut them to the right size. Easiest way to cut an acrylic sheet is the 'scribe break' method. The scribe method can only cut in straight lines though. You'll need an acrylic knife cutter (under $10). Google 'scribe break acrylic', tons of detailed tutorial and videos.

For the dimension reference on the 1st one (the brainwavz): http://www.elusivedisc.com/SIEVEKING-SOUND-OMEGA-HEADPHONE-STAND-ZEBRANO/productinfo/SKSHPSZ/

To bend the 1st one, I just use a butter can as guide to the big arch above, and vodka bottle to guide the smaller arches below. Acrylic sheets are very easy to bend. Just apply heat and they will bend almost immediately. You can use heat guns (I use one), butane torches, even a gas lighter will do. Heat guns yield better results though, and safer, as there are no actual flames.

With the right tools, you can add much much more variations, like bevels, LEDs, or even engrave names or pictures...

Photographic illusions mate. If you see the real products in front of your eyes, you wouldn't want to poke it with a 30-foot pole,

I played with vacuum forming acrylic for a car mod. its amazing how much detail transfers onto the acrylic. if you looked hard enough you could see the ridges from cellophane tape transfered over.

Yeah, when it's hot and soft, it's like a play-doh (sorry couldn't think of a better comparison). When bending the 1st one in the picture above, I used a wool gloves to help bend it by hand (gloves to keep me from burning my hands). The contour of the wool weaving transferred to the surface of the acrylic. It can even pick up fingerprints, if you pressed a hot surface with bare fingers...
