I'll take it from here, he's my friend, I asked him to post here because I didn't know what the problem is but he doesn't seem to be able to explain the problem correctly.

Did you overclock?

No he didn't.

Does it let you boot to safe mode?

I don't think so, I'll try and show him how he can do it.

specs?

i7 4770k

Maximus VI Hero

8GB (2x4) of G.Skill ripjaws memory

An old radeon card, 5000 series (sorry but I can't tell more about it, it might be very low end because it relies only on the PCI-e slot power.

1TB Hitachi drive

500GB WD Green drive (this one stil has Windows 7 on it) It was formated in two partitions (so I believe it still is ?) One of the partitions only had 2MB left of space.

Crucial 240GB SSD, Windows 7 installed

BeQuiet ! 700w PSU 80+ bronze

Tell me more.....

His internet wasn't working, so I told him to install the Intel LAN drivers on the driver CD that came with the mobo, there was a bunch of others on it (like USB 3) so I said he might as well install them all.

They all installed without problem except one, called Hyperspeed something (his words). (the USB 3 drivers maybe ?)

Thank you all for your help.

What OS is he running?

My guess is that some of the drivers really dislike Windows 8 / 8.1 ^^
