Though, note that AMD said that they will be releasing the bios updates for these well after the release of the ryzen 4000. so before buying the ryzen 4000 upon release, make sure that your MOBO manufacturer already had the bios update for the Ryzen 4000.

Why upgrade now if it will not give you any performance benefit? Just wait until B550 is out and 4000 series CPU's are released. The B450 support will be an option, it's not guaranteed the motherboard manufacturer will release an updated bios.

Im planning to get a new mobo in the fall b/c mine shorted out. I want to be able to get something like an athlon now, then a 4000 series chip if  i can, if not ill get a 3000, but a 4000 without a new mobo woud be nice

Oh i see, I would still wait for a B550 board if it was up to me. You could return your "shorted out" board and have it replaced if it's still under warranty.

no. i got it used from a friend who gave it to me, with a cpu. it was a a b20m bazooka board, pretty nice but any warranty would be to the original buyer, right?

Not necessarily, it depends on the product. As long as you have the original receipt you should be fine, or you could just ask your friend.
