So, I've been doing a little f@h lately and I like the concept. However, it does slow down my current PC down some and it's a tad annoying.

I'm going to be building a new rig in the fall, and I was wondering if simply having another video card in there to do f@h while the other card handles games etc (I do turn off folding while I game) would work?

Then I'd never have to bother turning it off, and I could essentially leave it in there without thought.

Should be fine, you can set up folding slots on any combination of hardware-- e.g. I deleted my CPU slot as it barely produces anything compared to my GPU.

What CPU are you using and is it also being used for F@H, with a modern CPU, it shouldn't be an issue, although it could be on older CPUs (if you are also gaming at the same time). You can set it to only run when the computer is at idle or not being used, or you could add another graphics card for F@H?

Yeah that's what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure. I don't bother with my CPU either.

I wonder if it'll cause any weird issues though. In my mind it shouldn't, as the second GPU wouldn't be doing anything system related other than fold.

Nope I don't fold with the CPU. The new system will likely be a 3600 since they're extremely plentiful in the used market.

I don't like having to mess with the settings over and over again every time I play, so adding another card would be the easiest way to accomplish that.

This can be configured to automatically start/stop on folding depending on your GPU usage and/or CPU usage if you were folding with the CPU also. This way, F@H can pause while you are gaming, rendering, etc and run when the system is at idle with unused compute resources available.

I've had issues where it'll still cause game lag.

Do you notice high CPU usage percentages at idle with or without folding running, if so then disable/close some unneeded background processes or upgrade to a better processor? Is there GPU usage from F@H while gaming, if not then it's likely that your hardware, internet connection, and/or background processes is causing the lag?
