Hi all, I'm looking to buy a laptop for productivity (photo editing and CAD) and casual gaming (Apex, Quake, Hollow Knight, etc.). I'm coming from a dual-core XPS 13 (so just about anything is an improvement) but I'm hoping to have something that won't slow to a crawl in the next 5 years, even if it won't be playing the latest AAA titles.

A lot of what I've been reading has pointed me towards Asus' G14, but its availability has left me with time to shop around. I stumbled across the Best-Buy exclusive version of MSI's GS66 and it seems to compare somewhat favorably to the G14. Although it has a more powerful processor, I've heard that the G14 uses a lower-power version of the RTX 2060 than the GS66 does. And although the more powerful versions of the GS66 have thermal issues, they should be more controlled with the less powerful components, no?

I'm torn between waiting an undefined amount of time for the G14, or a fairly minimal wait for a GS66 (or even a similarly spec-ed version of Asus' larger G15). Any advice?

The 2060 that the G14 uses is the Max-Q Design that has lower power consumption, because it has reduced clock speeds.\

Which means that the performance is lower than regular 2060 (dunno if even noticeable), but should be perfect when gaming at 1080p. Although, if a game uses Raytracing, for sure the framerate will be lower.

I am eagerly waiting for the G14 (read, refreshing frantically the store pages hahah), but be aware that the G14 has some screen issues (Photo Editing will not be optimal). And the G15 which is cheaper, has a better screen for photo editing.
