Hi all,

I am currently dealing with a failing/broken wifi card (new one will be here in a couple days). It keeps / kept disconnecting from the dual-band signal our router is giving off, sometimes after 30 seconds, sometimes 10 minutes, or 4 hours. No rhyme or reason. I put on my hotspot through my phone (samsung note 8) and it connected immediately, got 20 ping, and 100 mbs down. I know for a fact that my data, even though its 4G LTE, puts out about a 5 down 2 up strength signal to any device I usually connect it to.

My question:

If my note 8 is on wifi, and i turn on a hotspot and connect another device to it, is it simply replicating and sharing that same wifi signal? I was able to download like 30gb of stuff through it at 8mbs (fast for steam) down with no connectivity issues.

I’m not aware of smart phones using a single WiFi antenna to simultaneously connect to home WiFi and broadcast a hotspot. Usually, if you want to share your 3G/4G/LTE connection, you create a hotspot with your WiFi antenna and your client devices use the cellular data. Or you can choose to tether with Bluetooth or USB and use the WiFi antenna to connect to your home WiFi.

Yes, if you are connected to WiFi and turn on hotspot you get a message saying "To use Mobile Hotspot, Wi-Fi needs to be turned off".
