Budget (including currency): Doesn't really matter, but I really want to cheap out.

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: No other heavy workloads besides Gaming. All kinds of games, including AAA Open World games and from time to time something lighter like Rimworld or Factorio

Other details (Currently running an ancient i5-4670K and 1060 (6GB); Only replacing some parts in existing PC;  I'm targeting 60-75 Hz@ 2560x1080

Current System (bought a 1000€ prebuild at the age of 14 6 years ago and upgraded/changed Graphics, RAM and Storage since then. Never touched the CPU because to upgrade it i need to buy a new CPU, Motherboard and RAM at the same time.)   https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/7XXNbX

Now I'm really starting to think that its both the Graphics card and the CPU which are holding me back and therefore want to upgrade the CPU (and MB and RAM).

Before the launch of the 3300x i wanted to buy a 3600, but now that I looked at some benchmarks I think that the very low improvement from the 3300x compared to the 3600 is not worth it for me.

In about 2 years I'm planning to build a totally new system with higher budget, meaning this will only be a short-time-solution.

Currently my PC would look like this after upgrading to the 3300x. I might buy a new GPU some time later, too, but I'm focusing on what to buy first.

Would that buy me some time CPU-wise or do you think it's still the GPU which I should replace?

(Yes, I know that theres a new Console-generation with more than 4 Cores coming up, but I think it will take some time till games use this adventage- and therefore disadvantage for me with only 4 physical cores.)

Meiner Meinung nach (obviously I could be wrong, I am no expert) you're probably better off upgrading the CPU, MB and maybe the RAM at the moment, from what I've heard new GPUs are around the corner, and you might get much better prices for them in a couple of years time (or could go for what is out there then), you could go for a better bang-for-the-buck Ryzen CPU (sorry, I have no specific recommendations, as I looked at Intel for my PC), buy some DDR4 RAM, enjoy it for the next couple of years with your 1060 (which, although it will hold you back, still is fairly decent) and then upgrade again? Ich hoffe, dass das hilfreich war, und ich weiß es nicht, ob man in unterschiedlichen Sprachen auf diesem Seite sprechen kann, aber ich wünsche dir die Beste!

I would upgrade the CPU first. Upgrading the graphics card will likely cost the same but without a fast modern CPU, there will be little benefit if at all. If you can wait for a month or so, a 3300X paired with a new B550 board would make the most sense if you ever needed or wanted to upgrade later. With the new RTX cards launching later this year, prices to current cards will likely drop, so buying now is kind of a waste unless you absolutely cannot play those games anymore.

Yes, if I had choosen to upgrade my GPU next, I would wait until the 3000-Series launches.

Your german, especially your placement of commas, is really good for a foreign speaker. But I would phrase it like this. Ich hoffe, dass das hilfreich war. (you could still connect using a "und" but for me personally it sounds wierd like that)  Ich weiß nicht, ob man auf dieser Seite in unterschiedlichen Sprachen sprechen kann, aber ich wünsche dir das Beste!

An Intel Core i5-4670K will still do well in modern games with a good graphics card, would upgrade the graphics card to an AMD Radeon RX 590 8GB or preferably Radeon 5700XT 8GB (don't upgrade to RX 590 unless you find good price and/or need the extra video memory since you will only get 10% better performance, the 5700XT 8GB would be a worthy upgrade for better performance).

Some B450 motherboards require a BIOS update before working with Matisse CPUs (including the Ryzen 3300X), get an MSI Tomahawk B450 Max which is guaranteed to ship with an updated/supported BIOS for Matisse processors. I would not cheap out on your CPU, background CPU utilization will cause performance reductions in applications with underpowered/low-end processors. Get a used or refurbished Ryzen 7 2700X instead of a 3300X.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,

This was the kind of opinion i was looking for. I'm really not sold onto the 3300x. I think I might wait a little and then upgrade the CPU.

B450's incompatibility with Matisse wouldn't be a problem, the merchants which offer the best prices all have updated BIOS at this point.

It wasn't much advice but you're welcome nonetheless! Fair enough, yeah it does make sense to wait for the GPU. Thank you, you're too kind! Thanks for the tips, I'm certainly nowhere near fluent unfortunately! Ich wünsche dir das Beste!
